4TH ANNUAL NEIGHBORHOOD CELEBRATION
Outdoor Festival Featured Community Performances,
Award Presentation & Live Rock Concert
In the spirit of the Kwanza principle Ujaama (cooperative economics), Bedford Stuyvesant Artists’ Association (BeSAA); Bridge Street Development Corporation, The Brownstoners of Bedford Stuyvesant, Inc.; Bedford-Stuyvesant Restoration Corporation, and Community Board 3 joined local neighbors, families and friends for the 4th annual Bed Stuy Alive! Taste, Strut, Tour, Shop, Rock & Run street festival. The event, which took place at Restoration Plaza, included live cultural performances from local schools and community organizations and a special live concert featuring some of Brooklyn’s hippest, hottest and funkiest bands. Sponsored by Restoration Rocks, patrons ended the evening “Rocking” to the pulsating sounds of variety of “Rock Acts” which included Muthawit, Funk Face, Faith and ’68 as well as rockers Tamar Kali and Manchildblack and their bands. The sets were complimented by spin master, DJ Rainy. 
In addition to great entertainment, the free outdoor neighborhood celebration included an awards presentation honoring some of Bedford Stuyvesant’s community legends. This year’s honorees included Jerry Blackshear, Margaret Cobbs, Spring McClendon, Ophelia Perry and Valerie Bell-Bey. Honorees received greetings, citations and awards from local elected officials including NY State Assemblywoman, Annette Robinson; Borough President, Marty Markowitz; and the office of Councilman, Al Vann’s office.
There was also be a posthumous presentation honoring Bed Stuy Alive! founder Tohma Yvonne Faulkner which was received by Ms. Faulkner’s oldest son Lance and sister Stephanie. The award paid homage to Ms. Faulkner’s unswerving commitment, dedication and service to the people and places of her beloved Bedford Stuyvesant neighborhood and will be presented annually to an individual that truly embrace Ms. Faulkner’s profound commitment to serve and not be served.
Bed Stuy Alive! Taste, Strut, Tour, Shop, Rock, and Run festival was a joint venture of Bedford Stuyvesant Artists’ Association, Bedford Stuyvesant Restoration Corporation, Bridge Street Development Corporation, The Brownstoners of Bedford Stuyvesant, Inc., and Community Board 3.
