"Bed-Stuy biz district to get an upgradeBy Amanda Fung," - Crain's New York Business
The commercial heart of Brooklyn's Bedford-Stuyvesant is getting a major makeover—plus two affordable-housing developments.
Next month, the neighborhood's brand-new business improvement district, called Bed-Stuy Gateway, will officially begin operations with a $675,000 annual budget. Its top priority is to ensure that the stretch of Fulton Street running from Bedford Avenue to Marcus Garvey Boulevard and Nostrand Avenue from Halsey Street to Atlantic Avenue are redone with new sidewalks, benches, trees and bike racks, according to Edmon Braiehwaite, the chairman of Bed-Stuy Gateway. The city awarded roughly $9 million to spruce up the area.
