WHIRLWIND TOUR OF BROOKLYN
July 26 – August 7, 2006

A 40-member delegation of South African economic, cultural, traditional leaders and artists affiliated with the Jazz African Heritage Festival (JAH), an international art festival, will take place in South Africa in February 2007.

JAZZ AFRICAN HERITAGE BROOKLYN SCHEDULE

· Wednesday, July 26, 4 p.m., Special Black Press Reception - Sugar Hill Restaurant, 609 Dekalb Avenue in Brooklyn: Performance by CBJC artists.
· Thursday, July 27, 1 p.m., Legislative Leaders Press Conference, co-hosted by Brooklyn Borough President and Black Legislative Leaders, Brooklyn Borough Hall, 209 Joralemon Street; to announce plans for JAH working with Brooklyn and plans for Jazz African Health Festival in 2007; Bob Cunningham Trio performing.
· July 27, 4-6 p.m., CBJC and Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce host Business Reception.
· Sunday, July 30, JAH Delegation makes special presentation to six Brooklyn Churches for their support and prayers during their time of struggle.
· Monday, July 31, 10 a.m., JAH Delegation visits African Burial Grounds to pay tribute, hosted by Black & Latino Council Caucus; with special remarks by Grace Masuku, South African Cultural & Heritage Scientist.
· Monday, July 31, 6pm - The Honorable Consul Mongubane, South Africa Representative to the United Nations hosts VIP dinner.
· Tuesday, August 1, 1-3 p.m.: Community Development Day in Brooklyn, co-hosted by the Bedford Stuyvesant Restoration Corporation.
· Tuesday, August 1, 12-4 p.m., YOUTH RALLY at Restoration – CELEBRATION OF CARIBBEAN EMANCIPATION DAY – Nonstop Productions, Restoration Youth Arts Academy, Youth Artists from South Africa, all day camp and other youth groups welcome.
· Tuesday, August 1, JAH Delegation tours Weeksville New Heritage Center.
· Thursday, August 3, 4-7 p.m., Meropa Heritage South African Collective-rural African women and African designers working together for economic justice – fashion, crafts with special performance by legendary African artists Letta Mbulu; CBJC and Brooklyn artists Brenda Brunson-Bey, Courtney Washington and Moshood host this event.
· Friday, August 4, 6-8 p.m. JAH Community Day (venue TBA); performances by Jazzy Jazz, CBJC artists, South African artists; All are welcome.
