RIP Elaine Thompson
Likely 2009 mayoral candidate/Comptroller Bill Thompson has lost his mother, Elaine, a former public school teacher, who was 81. His office released the following statement:
"It is with great sadness that we report the passing of Elaine Thompson. Our thoughts and prayers are with Comptroller Thompson and his family at this time.”
Ms. Thompson, who was 81, served as a public school teacher in the New York City School System for nearly three decades. For most of her tenure, from 1962 to 1982, she taught third-grade classes at Public School 262 in Bedford-Stuyvesant. She later taught at Public School 308 in Bedford-Stuyvesant until her retirement in 1989.
She also volunteered for many years and served as Chair of the Board at the Brooklyn Home for the Aged.
In addition to Comptroller Thompson, Ms. Thompson is survived by her sister, Genevieve Allen of Manhattan; a daughter, Gail Thompson Lake of New Jersey; and three grandchildren.
Funeral arrangements have not yet been finalized."
