"YOUNG LOCAL (Haitian) DESIGNER Debuts at FASHION’S NIGHT OUT EVENT,"
NEW YORK, NY (August 18, 2009) -- Fashion’s Night Out promises to be the most celebrated night of the year for the global fashion retail business. In 13 fashion capitals across the globe, fashion designers and fashion followers will imbibe in a shopping feast unlike no other. The co-creation by US and international VOGUE, this night will put local designers looking for an opportunity to make a name in the fashion world the chance of a lifetime. Two Brooklyn locations are coming together to offer support and ensure that shoppers have an experience they will remember!
Carla’s Creative Workshop will be the central Bedford Avenue location where local designers can retail their fashion, accessories and craft items! Designer Carla Selby will lead the lineup of local talent offering up “impromptu” attendee giveaways, fashion shoots and the latest fashion accessories and clothing designs for sale.
Another retail establishment focused on addressing the multi cultural needs of her Brooklyn neighborhood is Calabar Imports. The proprietresses of Calabar Imports will focus on Brooklyn’s unique global African aesthetic. They will have local stylists on hand to help shoppers select items and share styling tips to meet their own global aesthetic fashion and home styling needs!
One local designer has already confirmed her place with Carla’s and Calabar Imports. Natacha Jospitre never planned on being a part of an official New York Fashion Week event this early in her career.
Bonnie Sandy, Fashion Editor of Calabar Magazine, project designer of Demarketplace; a virtual incubator and collective and one of the coordinating designers of Brooklyn Fashion Week has come together with these leading entrepreneurs in Brooklyn’s fashion hub to ensure that Brooklyn’s independent designers and other local creative talent have not just a presence but a space to offer their products. In the last two years close to 20 local retail businesses have closed their doors. That loss vibrates throughout the community!
The event starts at 6pm and runs till 11pm. Designers, models, artists, crafters and stylists who wish to show, sell and celebrate the sector, have until August 31st to get on the roster for this official Fashion’s Night Out Event. Selection is on a first-come basis and space is limited.
Attendees are encouraged to RSVP online for updates and design previews or simply walk or take the MTA’s B45 bus between the two events.
